Enshrouded Introduces Underwater Base Building with New Water Biome

The dream of creating an underwater temple in the jungle is now real.

Enshrouded has returned with the major Wake of the Water update, which not only introduces a large region to explore but also adds a complex water system, along with plenty of changes to the base game.

The Veil Water Basin is a high-level biome that blends tropical jungle and winding waterways with ruined temples and sunken halls. This region is home to a new enemy type: the Drak, a reptilian people who once fought humanity for control of the area. With the spread of the Shroud, the Drak have resurfaced and now dominate much of the basin. Able to fight underwater, they make encounters near the water feel unique and dangerous. You’ll face them on beaches, among mangroves, and within half-submerged ruins.

The core feature of this update is real time water that you can move, store and use. Water is no longer only a view. You can siphon it, carry it, drain or fill lakes and barrels. You can bring it into your base to turn water wheels, power crafting stations and grow new crops that only live in water. There are new tools for moving water and new props for building with it. However, there are limits to how much the game and your machine can simulate, and the developers say they will keep working on performance so more players can enjoy the systems.

Exploration changes include diving with limited oxygen and underwater treasure to find. Fishing is now a thing you can do for food and crafting materials. Basic rods are craftable early and better gear and bait can be found or bought in the Veil Water Basin.

For players who wanted more control over farming, the watering can now gives useful plant info and lets you set a maximum growth state for plants and trees. Water pouches have been reworked too. They now carry a fill state and no longer stack, and they can be filled from lakes, wells, barrels and factories that hold water.

If you want to build with water and keep it where you want, there are water barrier walls that stop flow and look good placed vertically or flat. The Flame Altar can also clear simulated water from a base with one press. Server hosts can set a visitor role to limit terraforming outside bases so pranks with water are easier to manage.

The developers have also worked on character progression and introduced new ways to fight. The level cap rises from 35 to 45, and weapon levels now go up to 50. Greatswords arrive as a new weapon type, complete with skills and perks to build around. There is a new two-handed skill that grants the “spin to win” move many players requested. The skill tree also adds moves that help you swim longer, dodge underwater, and boost resistances.

There are many quality of life and balance fixes across the update. Weapons and armor were rebalanced, durability was adjusted and the item UI was cleaned up. Chests now save their emptied state for a while so loot runs feel fair. Respawn rules were tweaked so players can come back at a last visited save point or base. The goal of these changes is to make exploring and building feel smoother.

The Veil Water Basin biome is clearly aimed at higher-level players, featuring new resources, recipes, building blocks, survivors, and quests that push progression forward. It also opens up new creative options for base builders who want water features or hidden aquatic lairs.

Enshrouded was nominated as a survival game of the year at the Gameoneer Awards 2024, and these new additions prove that the game is worthy of the title, as it continues to evolve and push the boundaries of the genre.
