After two years of development, Mass Game Devs have launched their debut title, Heat Death: Survival Train, a sci-fi survival game where players can build and upgrade their very own battle train. This vehicle isn’t just a means of transportation, it also serves as your home as you explore and survive in a frozen world. But you’re not alone: throughout your journey, you’ll encounter deadly drones and face fierce storms that reduce visibility, all while uncovering the mysteries of an unfamiliar landscape.
The core feature of Heat Death is the train-building system. After loading into the world, you’ll find yourself in a snow-covered, abandoned town. Upon discovering the train’s base, you can start modifying it by adding walls, power generators, and other structures to get it up and running. The train can be fully customized based on the materials you gather, and if you’re not fond of its default colors, you can personalize it further with decals. Once you’ve customized your train’s appearance, it’s time to equip it with firepower. As you travel along the tracks, you’ll come across various points of interest, such as caves, towns, and lakes. These locations are essential for looting resources, and some of them also reveal pieces of the game’s lore.

While casually riding your new train, a group of hostile enemies may appear. Their goal is to destroy your base by any means necessary. While you can fend them off by yourself if you have a weapon, they will gradually overwhelm you over time as they attack with more forces. This is where combat drones, large cannons, and turrets come in handy. Place these on top of your train and watch them take down the attacking drones.
If you’d rather not waste resources on them, however, you can always choose to make a break for it. However, these robotic pests are not the only danger in this world. A heavy snowstorm can sweep over the land, lowering visibility and making it dangerous to be outside. It also freezes the player, so you’ll need to find shelter as soon as possible.

The developers have shared some details on what we can expect during the early access release. As mentioned earlier, they are currently working on finishing Chapter One, after which a few more chapters will follow. Each new chapter will include more lore, train parts, enemies, locations to explore, and different weather effects that you will need to overcome to survive. Mass Game Devs expect this to take around two years to complete, assuming everything goes as planned.
Heat Death: Survival Train is available on Steam and offers a 20% discount for its release.
