Developers Norsfell kicks off the new year with The Witch Saga, one of the biggest updates yet to their Viking game Tribes of Midgard. The Witch Saga introduces a new biome, a new ancient, farming, many new crafting recipes, and much more.
New Biome
A new end-game area has been added to the map of Tribes of Midgard. This realm is known as Niflheim, a cold and shadowy location home to powerful new enemies, new unique loot, and the new ancient Hel the ruler of the dead.
Niflheim can be found by finding the undergate portal and entering it.
The Helthings guardling and Draugrs are the main new enemies you will find in this place. Fighting them will be difficult for the unprepared but the payoff is well worth it in the form of materials you can use to forge new and powerful gear.
The Helthing guardling is a tough opponent and will pummel anyone who dares to visit Niflheim.
The Draugrs are equipped with lengthy spears while others have the ability to cast powerful ice magic that can slow the player down.
This update also comes with a new saga quest where the objective is to confront the ruler of the dead herself after she imprisoned the fallen god Baldr.

Survival Mode Improvements
Survival mode has gotten some love in this update with new features and improvements.
Starter kits are no longer exclusive to Saga mode giving you a helping hand upon starting a new survival world.
Defeated ancients can now respawn, but every time they do they become stronger than before.
You are now able to build a ballista, fire turret, and other damage-dealing towers for a new challenge that can be found in the world.
Players will be able to find newly growing seeds of Yggdrasil. Similar to the seed found in the village these newlings come with danger as well. You can start a challenge at the sapling that will trigger enemies to spawn in and destroy it. Your goal is to build traps and defenses to stop incoming monsters. You can find one seed in each biome with every single one having different enemies to defeat.
When you finish this challenge and you are victorious you will receive some random rewards and you will be able to upgrade the sapling. Doing this will speed up the rate at which essence grows around it.
You will now be able to build the quest board in Survival giving players access to personal quests.

Farming and Crafting
Players can now farm in Tribes of Midgard. You can craft a shovel and use it to dig holes in the ground. Then plant some essences (which are magical seeds) and watch them grow.
These essences are obtained by doing personal quests or by looting them across Midgard.
You will be able to harvest a wide variety of different crops and as stated before planting them around an upgraded Yggdrasil seed will increase the rate at which they grow.
Shovels are not the only new items you can craft. New weapons like spears, swords, and scythes can be forged. A sickle can now be crafted which increases the amount of plants the player will harvest.
There are five new meals to cook up and each one new and old will now have the chance of triggering a secondary effect upon consumption. This ranges from dropping healing or mana orbs to giving you a speed buff.
There are also 10 new runes to pick from as well as multiple new starter kits when starting your adventure.
New caves can be found across the Bright Forest. And the Vilespitter has an alternate variant you can run into when trying to defeat this ancient. This new one will have a different look and new poison-based attacks.
There are plenty of new cosmetics and pets, and you will now be able to change your facial hair from a new tab in the customize menu.
A new cross-play feature has been added. Xbox, Steam, and Epic Games players are now able to play Tribes of Midgard Together.
And plenty of other smaller additions and quality-of-life features have been added to the Witch Saga update.
