Winter Survival Releases a Demo and Introduces a Unique Way to Alter the Gameplay Experience

Do you prefer a more relaxed or challenging survival?

In February 2023, DRAGO Entertainment released Winter Survival: Prologue, which was a demo of their upcoming game, Winter Survival. It was fun but a bit too linear for most fans of the survival genre, who wanted a more open-world survival experience. The development team listened and made improvements to the game, now bringing a new demo featuring all the changes.

Nearly a year later, and with a major change to how the game was designed, a re-release of the new Winter Survival demo is released, with the core focus being on making the changes that the players requested.

The development team did not want to spoil any of the surprises for us to encounter in the new demo but stated that with this more open-world style of game play, we will focus on exploring, gathering materials, building a shelter, crafting new items, and trying to adapt to the harsh environment that we will be thrown into.

One of the new additions will be the addition of starting scenarios, which will allow us, the players, to choose how much of a challenge we want to face. Every game will start with you choosing a starting scenario. The scenarios are broken down into three different categories: When did it happen? Equipment condition? How was the weather?

Each of the scenarios has four choices that will influence the game and the difficulty, as shown in the example below:

How was the weather?

  • I don’t remember: adds a random difficulty.
  • Clear: adds warmer weather, normal difficulty
  • Cloudy: adds chilly weather +1 difficulty
  • Snowy and windy: adds cold weather +2 difficulty.

So, if you’re looking for a safer, more casual experience, you may want to choose an early, sunny morning with the proper equipment and shelter already built. Want more randomness? Let the game decide. If you are truly in for punishment, set it to maximum difficulty.

Each scenario also comes with a sort of starting quest, such as sneaking by a bear or curing a disease, a sort of short story mode within the endless mode itself. No matter your play style, you will find something to challenge you. But for demo purposes, you’ll be able to choose only one starting scenario. The others will unlock as soon as you get your hands on the Early Access version.

Early access for Winter Survival starts February 28th, 2024, but you can now download the game’s updated demo on Steam.
