Pompeii: The Legacy is about to leave Early Access, bringing a major milestone for solo developer Zeljko Kos and Siscia Games. After six months of active development, the city builder is moving into full release, but Kos says the work is far from over. He has described this launch as the end of a demanding phase, while also making clear that the game will keep growing after release.
The full version will include the complete campaign, which is now playable from start to finish and offers more than 20 hours of content. The game centers on rebuilding Pompeii across generations, with players managing trade, politics, economy, and the daily lives of citizens while dealing with changing conditions and events. It aims to balance city planning with pressure from the world around it, giving players both long term goals and immediate problems to handle.
Much of the Early Access period has been spent expanding the game’s systems and refining how it plays. Over the last six months, Pompeii: The Legacy added a panoramic camera, new disasters such as snowstorms, storms, and volcanic ash, and an improved fire system with spreading mechanics. Festivals, arena games, public events, better trade, a reworked aqueduct system, building relocation, manual and automatic worker assignment, city walls, and a basic military presence were also added. The game now includes new buildings such as the Circus, Academy, Temples, Gold Mine, Pozzolan Mine, Weaponsmith, and Armorer, along with more production chains, research options, preview tools, and army management panels.
The city also has a stronger sense of life than it did at the start of Early Access, with expanded visual and sound work, including weather effects, ambient audio, more detailed city scenes, and additional domestic animals. Performance has also been improved, and the game is now fully translated into 13 languages.
Kos has also said that release will not mark the end of development. Planned updates include combat improvements, Steam Workshop support, controller support, and Steam Deck optimization. For a game built by a single developer using a custom engine, this is a truly notable step.
Pompeii: The Legacy’s 1.0 update will release on April 9 on Steam, but you can already get the game at a discounted price.
