The Forest-Inspired ‘Vorax’ Reveals New Dogman Mutants and AI Overhaul

Who let the dogs out?

It is often said that a dog is man’s best friend, but this may not hold true in Vorax, an upcoming survival horror craft game. Developer IndieGala has recently unveiled its latest major update, which adds new mutated human-like dogs and an AI overhaul.

Vorax is set on a Mediterranean island where the deadly V virus transforms the local population into flesh-hungry mutants. This dangerous virus has not only infected humans but also animals, resulting in the creation of a new creature known as a dogman – a hybrid of a human and a dog.

Currently, there are three variations of this creature. The first type is a Wolf-like Dogman that looks similar to a werewolf. It is a large and agile predator, often found roaming the woods and looking for its next prey. It is the most aggressive of the three, so it’s best to keep your distance if you encounter one.

The Molossoid Dogman is another mutant with a muscular build. Fortunately, it is not dangerous unless provoked, and there is even a possibility of turning it into a follower that will assist you in your survival.

The Greioid Dogman is the timid one that sees you as a threat and tends to avoid confrontations. There is no need to worry about this fearful canid, unless it has some tricks up its sleeve to alert other mutants of your location.

Each of these dogmen will exhibit distinct behaviors and will be capable of interacting with other NPCs, feeding, sleeping, and performing various other actions. The best part is that some of them can even be tamed, providing you with a strong and loyal companion.

In addition to the previously introduced Arachnorats, dogmen are just a few of the creatures you will encounter in Vorax, with more to be announced in the future.

The developers have also revealed significant improvements to the AI system. This will enable mutants to execute advanced combat patterns, such as forming groups and launching coordinated attacks, fleeing from fights and regrouping, or using environmental objects to fight against you. This reminds me of The Forest, my favorite survival horror craft game, and I am excited to see what new possibilities the AI system will bring to Vorax.

IndieGala plans to release a new demo with the game’s latest 0.7 update during the Steam Next Fest on February 5th.

What are your thoughts on dogmen and the possibility of taming them?
